The Yorkshire Terriers continued their ascent up the GFSN league on Sunday, beating Nottingham Lions 5-3 on their own patch.
The game exploded into life with the Terriers on top and early pressure paid off as Ethan Nixon saw his shot deflected into the goal just eight minutes in.
Ahead, and in control, the Terriers pushed for a second which came just two minutes later, Ian James continuing his form by capitalising on a goal mouth scramble.
The lions may have feared the worst as the Terriers continued to threaten, Ian James again causing problems at the back, seeing his header cleared off the line.
But shortly before the twenty minute mark, the Lions tenacious defending was rewarded as a long ball forward and a great finish saw the home side half the deficit.
After a thrilling opening to the match, the encounter fell a little flat as the Terriers were denied multiple chances by the slight dubious offside flag.
However, the Yorkshire side restored their two goal cushion ten minutes before half time with Tom Carter’s looping header sneaking in at the back post.
And it was Carter who rounded off an impressive first half for the Terriers, flicking Matt Nellist’s free kick on, and subsequently finding the bottom corner.
The Lions came out fighting in the second half and, ten minutes in, got their reward. A cross turned shot finding the net after some good work down the right.
The introduction of Billy Quinn gave the Terriers a new menace on the attack, and the lead would have been more had his goal not been flagged offside, following some great link up play with Tom Carter.
However, ten minutes from time, The lead was increased, Tom Carter finishing off his hat trick after taking the ball around the keeper. And although Nottingham did get one back a few minutes later, it acted merely as a consolation, as the Terriers held on for an important three points.
